These are still early days for Transitions UK . We are ambitious but realistic. Check out our mission, vision and values Mission and Values and you will see that we plan to make a real impact for young people across our nation. We are keen to emphasise the passion and concern we have to support young people towards a better future. The statistics on youth unemployment, youth suicide and the general disillusionment and disengagement so many young people feel are stark. The reality for too many is a loss of hope and a huge loss of potential for them and for our society. That has to be addressed.
As part of our vision to help change our society for the better, we also want to help small charities and grass-roots organisations to develop and grow; the right support at the right time can be truly transforming. We want to provide just that, wherever we can.
Most of us can recognise the things in our lives that have really made a difference and helped us become the people we are. Most of the good things are actually about the people and relationships that we have been helped by and supported to take that next important step or to believe in ourselves when it matters most.
Transitions UK is headed by a group of people who have experienced that in our own lives and recognise that finding those relationships and people can be harder for some than for others. Many young people feel isolated and confused; they desperately need positive role models and people who care enough to give their time and their faith in each young person. Whilst the focus is on young people we also recognise that sometimes we will need to work with the whole family to really achieve the best outcomes for that young person.
Our emphasis is on practical and real inputs and changes that make a real difference. We have, of course, limited resources and we will work hard to identify young people who genuinely want to move forward so that we can help them grow and develop to their best possible potential. That of course benefits communities as a whole. As we grow we want this to affect the UK and society generally.
We have a wide range of leadership and development skills within the team and we are also concerned to help small charities and grass-roots organisations to become more effective and sustainable. Small organisations often struggle with a lack of resources and because they don’t know what they don’t know. We will work with small organisations at subsidised rates, sometimes for free, to help good organisations with great ideas for transforming their community to transition to the next level of effectiveness. That could be around funding and fundraising, strategic development, policies and infrastructure, Team development, leadership mentoring etc. Again we believe in the power of positive relationships and we are keen to discover those who with a bit of help can become much more effective and fruitful.
