The Sky is the Limit | Reach as high as you can day

“The excitement of dreams coming true is beyond the description of words.” ― Lailah Gifty Akita

Reach as high as you can day is here to celebrate people creating and achieving their goals. It’s all about the idea of choosing bigger and better things for yourself and your future by pushing yourself to your limits and following your passions.

At Transitions UK, we believe all young people deserve the chance of achieving their dreams however, some don’t have the same opportunities as others due to personal disadvantages. We support those that are vulnerable with their transition to adulthood, where they can begin to pursue their goals.

We do this through 1-1 mentoring sessions where we support young people with their personal development, skills and training, confidence and self-esteem and employment.

One of the main things we like to do with our beneficiaries when they join us is create a well-thought-out PATH Plan and Development Web. These are two activities that help us and the young person to understand their goals and passions and how they aim to get there over a 2–3-year period.

Everyone should create a PATH plan for themselves as it’s so key to write down your ambitions as it makes it more real, and you can visualise your journey to the end result.

The PATH has sections for ‘now’, ‘1 year’, 2 years’ and ‘The Final Dream’ where you’ll write in each section where you will be, how you plan to get there and who will help/be of benefit to you – Ultimately creating a clear path to the future.

The Development Web that we work with the young people on is there to assess your skill sets on many different aspects such as communication, confidence, education, health and wellbeing, relationships. money management skills, anger management, expressing emotions and more. This activity can be tailored to the young person specifically as we can change the different elements that they want to be developed. From this, you can see where improvements are needed and can work towards those.

From this, we continue to work with our young person over the 2–3-year period in following their path plan and improving the skills in their development web while simultaneously introducing them to new opportunities like work experience, apprenticeships, or full-time roles. We also like to provide them with new contacts that could help better their lives and futures.

Although at Transitions UK we’re always at hand to provide the support we do, a lot of the work can come from within yourself.

These are a few things you can do to make sure your dreams do come true, such as:

  • Keeping a routine – Good habits and a healthy routine are the steppingstones to being successful in whatever you choose to do. It’s significant to keep up consistent progress as this means you’ll always be moving towards your goal.

  • Keeping a clean space – Whether that be your workspace, room, or home, it can benefit your overall motivation to do well and allow you to get the most out the day. It keeps your mind fresh and clear, and it creates a healthy environment to be in.

  • Stop procrastinating – This is a huge factor in people not succeeding or not pushing themselves to be the best they can be. It’s important to make sure you’re breaking these unhealthy habits and replacing them with ones that support your future goals.

  • Make choices in aid of your passion – Your end goal should be the thing that will make you the happiest so making choices in life that will aid in this coming true will benefit you in the long run. This could include your educational choices or even the people that you choose to surround yourself with – they’'ll all take into account for what your future will be.

On this day, it’s important to remind yourself that the sky is the limit and there is so much for you to strive to do.
